Making My Own Takeout Pt. 3

I'm the type of person who really does enjoy going out to eat. I love the whole experience. Having someone else serve me, someone else to cook my food and of course someone else to clean up the mess afterwards. Of course, when the economy took a nosedive, most people gave up the luxury of a nice meal out including my husband and me. Being a new family of four, there were just other places we knew we needed to spend that money. Don't get me wrong, we still eat out. I can't give that up completely but I've also learned to adapt to not being able to have a night out every weekend. That's why you'll notice my "Making My Own Takeout" series of blog posts. I try to take our family favorites and turn them into a fun family night at home. Whether it be Chinese food, pizza, Mexican, or whatever, I try to make the whole experience fun for all of us. Last nights "takeout" was pizza and wings night. Hubby and I have a favorite we like to get at our local pizzeria. It's loaded with cheese, pepperoni, red onions and banana peppers. It's so yummy!!! Of course what's goes better with pizza than buffalo wings. Now I love, love, love spicy food but I also love when sweet mixes with spicy. So for my wing sauce, I always had honey and brown sugar to give just the right amount of sweetness to mix with the heat. Hubby even told me last night that my wing sauce is his favorite of all the wings he's ever eaten. A bold statement if I've ever heard one. Of course he's not biased at all LOL. If you are like me and like sweet and heat mixed together, try this wing sauce the next time you're cooking wings at home. It's sure to be a hit.

Beth's Chicken Wings

1 package chicken wings & drumettes
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 bottle Frank's Red Hot Sauce (and yes, it has to be Frank's Red Hot)
1/8 cup brown sugar
2-3 tablespoons honey

Preheat the broiler.

Over medium heat combine all ingredients except chicken wings. While sauce simmers, season wings with salt and pepper. Place wings on cookie sheet covered with foil. Brush wings with wing sauce and cook under the broiler for 8-12 minutes. Flip wings and brush with more sauce. Cook for an additional 4 minutes then toss hot wings in the remaining sauce. Serve with either blue cheese or ranch dressing.
