It's Burger Time

It's summertime and to me that means burgers on the grill. My absolute favorite sandwich is the burger because it's like a blank canvas on your plate. You can put just about anything you want on it. A burger can transport you to a different world based on what you top it with. It also has a certain comfort feeling. The burger just invites fun and yumminess. Now I know there are purists out there who would say you have to use ground chuck that is 80/20 to ensure maximum juiciness but I'm a girl who just had a baby and still has some pounds to shed. I use ground sirloin for the flavor but my fat ratio is 93/7. For me it has just as much flavor and moisture but if you really crave that extra juice, then I would suggest mixing half ground sirloin and half ground chuck. I had a hard time deciding last night what direction I wanted my burger to take me last night. Did I want Tex Mex, traditional cheeseburger or something more fancy? In the end, I just decided I wanted a regular old bacon cheeseburger. Sometimes it doesn't get much better than classics. I picked up some gorgeous, fresh baked kaiser rolls from my local store's bakery and topped my burger with bacon (of course), pickles, bbq sauce, pepper jack (for a little spice) & Colby jack cheeses and a little lettuce. It was fantastic and went perfectly with the romaine wedge salad I served on the side. If you love burgers as much as I do, then I suggest you pick up a copy of Bobby Flay's "Burgers and Fries" cookbook. He has amazing ideas of what to do with the burger plus some really scrumptious looking shake recipes.

On a side note, I wanted to end the meal with a little something sweet. I picked up some fresh pineapple and threw that on the grill. I topped it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled it with caramel sauce. The perfect sweet treat after a hot day in the sun.

  1. I like the pineapple slice with ice cream on top. I wonder if I can use yogurt instead.

  2. You can certainly use yogurt instead of the ice cream. I actually used a light ice cream to offset the calories. I'm glad you enjoy the site and would love it if you would guide other readers here. Thanks for being a reader!!!!
